We felt intimately connected with everything the island offered to us: the beautiful Hindu temples of Bali, the vivid cultural traditions we encountered in every corner and most of all the friendly people who smiled at us anywhere our motorbike took us.<\/p>\n

The Tanah Lot temple is situated on the coast, and it can be accessed on foot only when the tide is low. It is probably one of the most picturesque temples in Bali, especially at sunset.<\/p>\n

This temple is built around the sacred spring of Tirta Empul, which provides holy water for the local people. We saw many Balinese take a bath here, which is not surprising, since it is considered to bring good fortune and healthy life.<\/p>\n

In the area around Tirta Gangga we had to stop every five minutes to look down from the road and feel enchanted by the intense green of the wonderful rice fields of Bali.<\/p>\n

The Lotus Temple, as it is referred to by local people, is one of the most beautiful temples in Bali. It is situated in the town of Ubud, and although the temple itself is gorgeous too, we felt especially amazed by the wonderful lotus pond in front of the temple.<\/p>\n

The main temple in Bali, called as the \u201cMother Temple\u201d. It is an enormous complex of 23 temples in 6 levels. When we visited this temple complex, it was full of local people celebrating the Full Moon<\/a>, a local tradition in Bali.<\/p>\n

Padangtegal Mandala Wisata Wanara Wana<\/h2>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

This complicated name is held by the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary<\/strong>, one of the most visited temples in Bali. Apart from the beautiful temples in a dense forest, which scene seems to have come out from an Indiana Jones movie, visitors entertain themselves with the Balinese (sometimes extremely annoying) macaques living around the temple complex<\/p>\n

The town of Ubud and the surroundings<\/h2>\n

Ubud is known to be the center of culture and traditions in Bali. It has become quite popular amongst tourists. We simply fell in love with this place, as we found out that we just had to leave behind the main roads and walk amongst the surrounding rice fields and encountered a world of tranquility with a very special atmosphere.<\/p>\n

Pura Gunung Kawi<\/h2>\n

This place is known as Bali’s “Valley of the Kings” and is located amongst some of the most beautiful rice fields in Bali. \u00a0The main shrine features Bali\u2019s kings carved into the rock.<\/p>\n

Pura Ulun Danu Bratan<\/h2>\n

\"Bali<\/p>\n

This is another temple in Bali that amazed us by its unbeatable location. It is found on the shores of Lake Bratan and it is dedicated to the goddess of rivers and lakes. A part of the temple complex actually seems to float on the lake, as that part is built on an island just off the shore.<\/p>\n

Puri Saren Agung<\/h2>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

Although it is hard to distinguish, this is actually the Royal Palace, not another temple. This is the palace where the kings of Bali lived till the middle of the last century.<\/p>\n

Goa Gajah<\/h2>\n

\"Temples<\/p>\n

This sacred site is the “Elephant Cave”, which actually does not feature any elephants. The name comes from the river nearby, which is called the Elephant River. The main feature of the cave is actually the entrance, a mouth with the rock beautifully carved around it.<\/p>\n

Yeh Puluh Reliefs<\/h2>\n

This wonderfully carved cliff that is situated amongst beautiful rice fields. The carving is 25 meter long and shows scenes from both everyday life and mythology.<\/p>\n
