During these days, local people celebrate the <b>Las Fallas Festival in Valencia<\/b> in order to welcome Spring and honor the city\u2019s patron Saint Joseph. <b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>These days, Valencia is an endless sequence of events, celebrations and parties, and if you think to<strong> visit Valencia<\/strong>, the Las Fallas Festival is the perfect week. For these days the city gets decorated with giant sculptures called \u201c<strong>fallas<\/strong>\u201d which represent famous characters from real life, like politics and also from fantasy like fairy tales. The figures that are in the fallas are called \u201c<strong>ninots<\/strong>\u201d. Each falla has its own significance, and every year they construct around 400 in the whole Valencian Community. During the Fallas Festival in Valencia you see one on almost every corner of the city, and these fallas always come in two, there\u2019s a smaller one for the children called falla infantil, and a bigger one for the adults.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1287 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.surfingtheplanet.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2015\/04\/DSC2596.jpg?strip=all&resize=1200%2C800\" alt=\"Fallas Festival Valencia - Visit Valencia\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1288 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.surfingtheplanet.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2015\/04\/DSC2632.jpg?strip=all&resize=1200%2C800\" alt=\"Children's Falla - Fallas Festival in Valencia\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Every day between 12.00 PM and 2 PM they do the \u201c<strong>masclet\u00e0<\/strong>\u201d, that is, \u00a0in each falla they explode a lot of firecrackers that make a tremendous noise. The buildings are really shaking and this really strong sensation raises the adrenaline level in all the participants.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1289 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.surfingtheplanet.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2015\/04\/DSC2618.jpg?strip=all&resize=1200%2C797\" alt=\"Masclet\u00e0 - Fallas Valencia 2015\" width=\"1200\" height=\"797\" \/><\/p>\n<p>17th March is the day of the \u201cMadonna la Virgen de los Desamparados\u201d, and this day the members of each of these falla groups bring flowers to the wooden sculpture of Virgin Mary that is found in the square named after her, la plaza de la Virgen.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1290 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.surfingtheplanet.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2015\/04\/DSC2656.jpg?strip=all&resize=1200%2C800\" alt=\"Men wearing traditional clothes Fallas Valencia\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1291 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.surfingtheplanet.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2015\/04\/DSC2856.jpg?strip=all&resize=1200%2C800\" alt=\"Fallas Festival in Valencia - Virgin Mary\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The night of 19th March is the most beautiful and also the saddest moment of the festivities. The city gets filled with smoke and the smell of burning, since at night they hold the \u201c<strong>crem\u00e0<\/strong>\u201d during which they burn these beautiful sculptures. At 10 PM they start with the fallas of the children, later, around midnight they burn the large ones, and \u00a0they leave the main falla situated in the square of the town hall for last, which gets burnt at 1 AM.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1292 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.surfingtheplanet.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2015\/04\/DSC2683.jpg?strip=all&resize=1200%2C800\" alt=\"Children's Fallas Valencia - Town Hall \" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1293 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.surfingtheplanet.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2015\/04\/DSC2705.jpg?strip=all&resize=1200%2C800\" alt=\"Burning Children's Fallas Valencia\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The moment of the \u201ccrem\u00e0\u201d is a very special and emotional moment. When the children\u2019s fallas are burnt, the little girls (called falleras) \u00a0dressed in traditional clothes start crying, because the festivities are finished. These falleras are picked in a quite tough selection, and then they spend quite a lot of time together before the fallas and make good friendships between each other, so the burning represents the end of this era for them, which makes them especially sad.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1294 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.surfingtheplanet.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2015\/04\/DSC2723.jpg?strip=all&resize=1200%2C800\" alt=\"Little girl crying for the end of the Fallas Festival Valencia\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Attending the \u201ccrem\u00e0\u201d during the Las Fallas Festival in Valencia is something you will never forget. You hear the loud noise of firecrackers, and then these giant statues start burning. The most emotive moment is when the top part of the sculptures falls down into the fire.
