We were looking for a relaxing weekend to disconnect and not to think about anything, while we can discover a place that we hadn’t known well yet. We looked at each other and said Costa Brava, which is one of our favorite places and we had already visited lots of different corners of the lovely coast of Catalonia, but far from all the beauties that you can find there. We chose Begur and we looked for a place to stay there. Looking at different options, we stumbled upon one that had a strange name, which didn’t mean too much to me, but I liked the sound of it: Cluc Hotel. This hotel was our choice.
We just entered Cluc Boutique Hotel in Begur, and we found this written on the wall: Cluc. adj. Dit de l’ull clos o tancat (en catalán) Español: ojo cerrado; Francés: oeil fermé; English: closed eye. Everything made sense then. Cluc Hotel was opened in a colonnial house from the 1800s and it was totally renovated respecting maximally the architectural style of the original building. A friendly and welcoming place, decorated in a great style and every little detail seems to be paid attention to.
Santi, the owner of the hotel, traveled a lot and he told us that he had decided to create a hotel that himself would have loved to stay at during his travels: a cozy hotel with a lot a character and that transmits also the local culture. All those qualities are present in the Cluc Hotel
You can feel yourself really comfortable in the Cluc Hotel, Santi leaves you the keys of the main door, so you can come and leave in total freedom. The hotel has 12 rooms, every one of them is decorated in a different, stylish way and all of them have a sentence written on the wall in Catalan, related to the act of sleeping. Ours was: A la bona son no hi ha llit dur (when you are sleepy, there are no hard beds).
There is an inner patio in the ground floor, where the breakfast is served, a chill-out zone in the basement, a library and a big table for reunions in the first floor and a hall with a comfy sofa and armchairs on the second floor. It really has everything you need for a relaxing stay!
The bed is very very comfortable and we have to admit that we don’t remember when we stayed the last time in a hotel that was as silent as this one, we haven’t heard any noise during the night.
Another thing that makes your stay worthwhile is the breakfast, in which they serve typical Catalan products, all coming from local farms and distributors. A delicious and healthy way to start the day!
So remember, if you go to Begur one day, check out Santi’s Cluc Hotel, close your eyes and let it coddle you.
Begur is located on the Costa Brava, it takes around 2 hours by car to get there from Barcelona. If you visit Barcelona in summer, the Costa Brava is a great area to get some relax at.
