The Perito Moreno Glacier is one of the most amazing natural landmarks of the world. It’s one of the most impressive glaciers for sure, the size of which amazes every visitor. We were especially lucky when we visited the Perito Moreno glacier, as there was a sunny day, and sometimes pieces of ice fell from the glacier. We spent there few hours waiting for a bigger chunk to fall and our effort was rewarded, as we saw a large block of ice to fall. It was an impressive phenomenon both for our eyes and our ears, as the ice fall was accompanied by an ear-piercing sound, and it perturbed the water around. We were able to both photograph and record it, and now we share it with you.

Useful Information Perito Moreno
Where is the Perito Moreno Glacier? In the South of Argentina, in the Patagonia Region, the closest settlement is called El Calafate.
How to get to Perito Moreno: You can either fly or take a long bus ride from Buenos Aires (several days) to get to El Calafate, which is the base of visiting
Useful tips about visiting the Perito Moreno Glacier: The glacier can be visited booking a tour in one of the many agencies in El Calafate. They basically provide you a very expensive bus ride to the glacier, which is only 80 km from El Calafate. To avoid that many people hitchhike to get there, and you will probably get a lift, too. The entrance ticket to the national park is also quite expensive, if you speak Spanish you might try to imitate the Argentinean accent, as the people from Argentina pay just a tiny part of what the foreign tourists do.

Really impressive. However, this is the result of climate change. Scary at the same time.
Rachele & Gábor
I agree with you, it’s really scary thinking about all the ice melting. However, the Perito Moreno is one of the few glaciers of the world that actually is growing.
Alli
That ice breaking off sounded so loud 😉 When I was in Argentina I was only in BA for a few days. Would love to go back and see sights like this!
Rachele & Gábor
Thanks Alli! I hope you will have the opportunity to visit the natural wonders of Argentina, they are pretty amazing!
Lexi
This looks so cool. I wanted to go down here on our last trip to south america but we didn’t quite make it 🙁
Rachele & Gábor
Thanks Lexi! Maybe next time!
christine
That must have been cool to see!

Wow. I mean while this is such a beautiful thing to see, it’s kind of sad that these changes are happening to our earth. Argentina’s been on our list for precisely this sort of thing, and here’s hoping we make it there next year!
Rachele & Gábor
We felt the same, it’s beautiful and sad at the same time. I really hope we do something to stop the global warming.
Anda
Wow, this looks amazing. I’ve never seen ice falling like that. What a great experience. Thank you for sharing this.
Rachele & Gábor
Thanks! It was pretty amazing and quite scary too!

Love the sequence of shots for the ice breaking.
sarah
Wow what an amazing experience!
Corinne
I def want to see this glacier…and I love how you sequenced the calving photos. Nice!
samiya selim
Wow! Stunning pictures but very sad and scary to see the effects of climate change as well..
Rachele & Gábor
Thanks, and I agree it’s beautiful and scary at the same time!
Kate
This scares me. It looks like a breathtaking place to visit. I’d love to go someday. I think it reinforces how much we need to care for the planet and adapt to prevent more climate changes. Great photos and video
Rachele & Gábor
I can’t agree more with you Kate. It’s just as you say, we have to be considerate about the environment around us, and not to take it for granted. Thanks for your comment!
Christina
Wow. Glad you haven´t been on a boat close to the falling ice.
Awesome pictures.
Rachele & Gábor
You can’t really go that close to the glacier by boat either. I think the boats go to 300 meter distance or so, as the thing is huge it seems to be closer:)
Chrysoula
It looks very beautiful but difficult to get to.
Madaline
Beautiful! You guys got lucky to see something like that. I have a friend who’s Argentinian and she should me pictures years ago of the glacier.
Rachele & Gábor
Thanks Madaline!

The video makes a powerful impression. So much force, so much energy. After the ice fell, the water looks so brooding and menacing. Inevitably, draws a parallel to climate changes too. It’s also interesting how different the same scene looks in still photos: more tamed and picturesque, not threatening at all.
Rachele & Gábor
Yeah, the turbulance of the water is what impacted us the most! You can imagine what happens when even bigger chunks fall into the water. Thanks for your comment!
Elena
I´ve been to quite a few glaciers in Europe, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina, Iceland…but Perito Moreno is my favourite…It was one of the first ones too, maybe that was the reason but I was so impressed…
Rachele & Gábor
It’s the most impressive glacier we have seen. Since then all glaciers we have seen were just a small piece of ice compared to it.
Sean
I never made it as far south as Patagonia when visiting Argentina. Too bad, as the glaciers look incredible! Great video.
Rachele & Gábor
Maybe next time you visit! Thanks for your comment!
TravelGretl
Wow…. I was literally with my eyes just wide open watching it. It is incredible and so scary at the same time! And you see really the massive power of nature. That always scares me as a human being 🙂
Rachele & Gábor
Yeah, it’s impressive to see the force of the nature with your eyes!
Roaming Renegades
Such an impressive example of nature and one of the places we really can’t wait to visit. Catching a piece breaking off like this is amazing, I imagine quite powerful in person.
Rachele & Gábor
It’s a real powerful experience, I hope you can also visit Patagonia soon!
Rose
That’s really impressive! The sounds of that ice breaking tingles my spine. Great video!
Rachele & Gábor
Thanks Rose for your comment!
Emily
Woah, this is incredible! Is this definitely a result of climate change and out of the ordinary? If so that’s very scary 🙁
Rachele & Gábor
It’s a strange thing. Glaciers recess everywhere in the world, but this one is actually an exception, Perito Moreno is one of the few glaciers that is growing. It’s still a powerful experience to see this big chunk of ice falling.
Andrea
Global warming makes me so mad. These glaciers are so beautiful and to thinking that they are melting at this speed is disheartening. Hope to visit while they are still there!
Rachele & Gábor
I agree with you Andrea, on our travels we faced with many signs of the global warming that are quite worrying. In New Zealands we saw glaciers that basically disappeared from the valley in the last 50 years.
Kristen Sarra
That’s incredible! In 2016 I’m flying to the tip of Chile and working my way up and around Chile and Argentina and the Perito Moreno Glacier is one of my ‘must dos’. I’m very excited about it!
Rachele & Gábor
You will enjoy the Patagonia! It’s full of beautiful places!
Rebekah Esme
Wow, absolutely stunning but so scary when you think of it!
