Bruges seems to have come out of a fairy tale, and for that particular reason during our visit to this beautiful medieval town we wanted to stay in a romantic hotel that would let us live our own fairy tale. We found a hotel that from the website looked exactly what we were looking for, the Hotel Heritage.
The Hotel Heritage is a boutique hotel, which is part of the Relais & Châteaux hotel chain that groups together luxury boutique hotels. In addition, to be part of this chain, all hotels need to have a very good restaurant. The Hotel Heritage has a nice building from the 19th century, which is situated just a few steps from Market Square, the main square of Bruges. It’s a perfect location to explore one of the most romantic cities of Europe. The hotel has an elegant Victorian-style and has in total 22 rooms.
We arrived in Bruges at night, and from the train station we took a cab to the hotel. When we entered the hotel lobby, we looked rapidly around, and then we looked into each other’s eyes without saying a word, and we both felt that we picked the perfect hotel to live our fairy tale stay.
The hotel has a very elegant style, and it makes you feel that you have been transported to the Victorian era.
After we finished the check-in, the receptionist in charge took us to our room. In the Hotel Heritage they look after every small detail, and the rooms, just as the rest of the hotel, have a very elegant and luxurious style. All rooms have something unique, all of them are special. The decoration has a lot of personality and fits into the ambience of the hotel.
The room
Our “Deluxe” room, which is like a small suite, had a small living room with sofa, flat screen TV and even an iPad, together with a small changing room. The spacious bathroom had both bath tub and shower pan, and the room, which seemed to be destined to the royal family had a huge “Nilson king bed”. Some small surprises were also waiting for us, which usually make the difference: a small basket with fresh fruit to welcome us, and on the bed a small box of delicious Belgian chocolate.
We slept very well in this really charming room, and we woke up for a particularly sunny day. When we got up, another small detail was waiting for us, a small card that informed us about the weather for the day. After shower, we went down to enjoy the delicious champagne breakfast with a large buffet of all sorts of local specialities. Is there a more romantic way than starting your day with a glass of champagne?
The Hotel Heritage also has a spa and a small gym, perfect to relax after walking a lot in the city.
Restaurant Le Mystique
You can’t stat that you fully lived the experience in the Hotel Heritage, if you don’t have dinner in the romantic Le Mystique Restaurant. Known in Bruges for its haute cuisine, the restaurant and its chef take you on a trip though the taste of local cuisine with excellent dishes and quality wines, all served in the most elegant surroundings we have ever dined at.
All dishes are created in the restaurant to fit in with the decoration prepared using different art pieces every evening. All of them reflects the chef’s unique personality to communicate with the guests through his marvelous culinary creations.
We had the chance to try a 4-course meal, which was simply fabulous. None of the dishes was simply food, but all of them had a certain meaning, and were inspired by the paintings and sculptures exhibited in the restaurant.
Café Le Magnum
After dinner you can relax with a tasty cocktail in the luxurious atmosphere of Le Magnum Café, where you will also find a beautiful library and a room with fireplace. This is a perfect place to have some relaxing moments before going up to your room.
Service
The service provided by the hotel staff is one of the best we have ever encountered. From the moment of the check-in till you leave, they pay attention to you, and they want all guests to leave satisfied.
Our stay in the Hotel Heritage was perfect and memorable, even better than what we dreamt about.
